Living in my Mazda 5

The idea of living in a van has always appealed to me. I spent one year living in my 32 ft converted RV, and I absolutely loved the freedom and independence it brought… the only problem was that it wasn’t mobile. It stayed parked at the same exact spot for an entire year.

It was a bit too cumbersome to move around, and on top of that, I wasn’t willing to use it as my only means of transportation. My Mazda has been with me since 2016, and I wasn’t quite ready to trade her in. So, after a lot of asking, I convinced my dad to help me convert it into a mini camper.

“Dad, all I need is a place to cook, a cooler, and a bed to sleep in.. you can design it however you want” I told him.

I am convinced that my dad can build or fix practically anything, and what he came up with was far better than anything I could have pictured or imagined!

Somehow he managed to put solar panels, a mini fridge, a custom fit wooden cabinet, a working sink, outlets for power, lights and a bed that folds in three different positions! He designed it to have plenty of storage space and lots of mini compartments to organize my things.

It’s a dream come true; I can eat home cooked meals, make my own coffee, charge all of my appliances and sleep in a comfy bed like a baby! Not only that, but the car is super stealthy and gets good gas mileage. I have the freedom to go wherever I want without worrying about finding a place to park or getting broken into.

I started off in Oceanside and took the California Coast to the tip of Washington.

I spent about three months in Oregon because of the thick forests and rocky coast.
